The University of Utah’s primary function is to educate students, therefore all commercial, photography and video, motion picture and television filming must adhere to all established rules, regulations, fee schedules and campus policies.
These requirements are not intended for news media photography and video or personal photography or video. Student projects, faculty and staff should follow internal guidelines found here. Other requests will be reviewed on a case by-case basis to determine fees and insurance requirements.
Commercial projects may be allowed with the permission of the University Marketing & Communication Office which can be requested by filling out the Filming on Campus Request Form in advance.
Projects produced by non-commercial projects or not-for-profit organizations will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Please fill out the Filming on Campus Request Form.
Please submit the request form as far ahead of the project as possible.
If your commercial project is approved, the following requirements must be met:
- Proof of insurance up to $1M that lists the University of Utah as additionally insured.
- Signed location agreement/contract with the company. The University of Utah does NOT sign outside contracts, commercial entities always must sign ours.
- Fee to film on campus. The typical daily fee for commercial use is $1,200 and will be collected before filming begins.
